Let’s get one thing straight. Salt is not the enemy. We need salt to live. What’s in the IV bag they give you when you’re sick in the hospital? Sodium. Many chronically ill people are low in sodium. I was one of them. Does this mean we should eat more canned soup with 1200 grams of sodium? Or use the salt shaker like there’s no tomorrow? No, I am talking about pure, sea salt or Himalayan or Celtic salt.
Some benefits of adequate salt intake include detoxification, hydration, balancing blood sugar, hormonal balance, adrenal and thyroid support, weight loss, improved sleep and antihistamine properties. Real salt has many trace minerals. And it’s cheap!
The book “Water Cures, Drugs Kills”, talks about not only getting adequate water, but also adequate salt each day. The book states you should be consuming 1/8 teaspoon of high quality sea salt per 16 ounces of water. I didn’t think I could possibly drink any more water because I already drank close to a gallon a day, and I actually already was taking Himalayan salt capsules on a daily basis. But I started adjusting the amount of salt to make sure I was getting enough. Immediately I noticed I felt better, my hair grew and I slept like a a baby.
The more water we drink the more we are washing away precious salt in our bodies. Also exercise, sweating, alcohol and drugs can lower your salt levels. Runners and people that exercise in the heat especially need to up their salt level.
There is even a salt/vitamin C protocol that some people have claimed to cure them of Lyme, Chronic Fatigue and other illnesses.
Salt Suites are popping up all over the country. There is a room filled with Himalayan salt crystals and you just go in and relax, breathe in and receive all the benefits of salt. I personally have not been yet, but I have friends that tell me they love it. One friend of mine who suffered with terrible asthma is now basically cured of it. She no longer needs the daily medication or inhaler.
Salt is best absorbed by putting it in water and drinking it. I love the capsules from herbsoflight.com. I open the capsule and put it right on my tongue and then just take a drink. Of course you want to make sure you have the right balance and not take too much salt without enough water. I also get a good quality salt in a grinder to put on my food. It makes everything so much more delicious. Pass the salt please!
