When You Can’t Get a Diagnosis

Maybe you’ve been chronically ill but no one can tell you what’s wrong with you. Maybe you’ve been diagnosed with IBS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or another one of these diseases that just means the doctor doesn’t know what’s wrong with you either. Sometimes we just want a name or to be validated that we’re not crazy! “I have MS! Finally!” That sounds terrible but that’s how many people feel. I get it. You want to finally be able to explain to your family and friends why you feel so lousy and can’t do anything.

Here’s the sad truth, you may never get a diagnosis. Lyme disease is exceptionally hard because testing is unreliable. The most reliable test is Isagenix in CA but you will most likely pay $1000 out of pocket. And here’s what I ask myself, what will come of it? If you have late stage Lyme disease and finally get that diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe Doxycycline. And it’s not going to help. I can tell you what has showed up in my blood work and in speaking to others in the same boat, we all had similar test results.

Low Alkaline Phosphatase – this is a rare finding and can be from Celiac, malnutrition or chronic  infection. Most of the people I’ve met with Lyme disease had this!

Low Sodium and Potassium. – this is why we need salt!

Low Magnesium

High Eosinophils – I’ve had this for years and not one doctor ever addressed it. It can be from an allergic reaction but it can also be a sign of a parasitic infection. So many people have parasitic infections that are bringing them down, making them feel lousy and even slowly killing them. Most people think of parasites as something you catch in a third world country and makes you run to the bathroom every five minutes. This can certainly be the case, but parasites can live anywhere in your body, blood or organs and can be down right dangerous. Doctors test for parasites by running stool tests. This is unreliable because they only test for certain parasites, and they might not show up in your stool that day. And if they are living in other parts of your body they won’t show up in your stool. So if you have been tested for parasites and were told you do not have an infection, you most certainly could still have one.

High AST and ALT. The liver has a hard time processing all the toxins in your body so your numbers can be high.

Low Red Blood Cells.

When I was having kidney pain and lower back pain I had leukocytes in my urine, (but never nitrites) occult blood and ketones.

Thyroid tests that really didn’t make any sense or fit into any category!

High Cholesterol

High AG Ratio

Low Bun/Creatinine Ratio

Even though these were all flagged on my tests, no one ever explained them or even told me anything was wrong. I only knew when I looked at it myself.

I’m not saying if you have these test results you automatically have a certain disease, but I know when I was ill with no answers I would have loved to find out if others had some of these things as well. You can also have perfectly normal lab work and still be sick.

Be prepared that you might never be officially diagnosed with something. It doesn’t mean you’re not sick. It does not mean you are crazy and making it up. Always look at your lab tests. Always ask questions. And if you’re sick with no answers, do what I did. Change your diet, cut out triggers, rest, and try some natural remedies. Research your symptoms, find some blogs, talk to other people. You can be a victim or you can take a stand, be your own advocate and have the will to get better.
